Julio Orta was born in Monterrey, México in 1986.                                                                                                                                                         Currently living in Los Angeles, where he got his MFA at California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, California (2016). Using a wide variety of media in his art, it’s conceptual: about everyday life woven together with the absurd and the playful. The environment is often a starting point for him with focus on the playful, all the way into the paradoxical. It ranges from the everyday human drama to the unseen absurdities of life that go unspoken. He was awarded a Residency in “O.F.A.R” Harrisonburg,Virginia, USA(2017) “Arteles”, Finland (2014) and “Side Street Studios” in Cape Town, South Africa (2015). He has shown in several group shows including; “The museum of the real and odd” at The Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art,(USA) 2017. “MOCAM- The Museum of Contemporary Art On the Moon”, Laboratory for Latin American Art and Thinking - LATlab,L.A (U.S.A) 2017.“In the Internet era I didn't have to leave my home to be on a show”, Bust Gallery, Virginia, USA.“Exit Interview” at Human Resources, L.A (U.S.A) 2016, “I am a forest dark” , The space between gallery, Cape Town, South Africa.“ Resolana” at University of California San Diego (USA 2014)  "DON'T EVEN DREAM!", RuArts gallery.Moscow, Russiaand “ La Quema Del Tiempo” at La Decanatura (Bogota, Colombia, 2013) his videos have screened at festivals including “ Crosstalk” ( Budapest, Hungary 2010) and “Cologne OFF” (Cologne, Germany 2009). His work was included in the official programming of the 56th Venice Biennale in the exhibition “The future is unwritten” in the Palazzo Cinni in 2015. In 2011 he won the award DIA (Design and Innovation Award), Monterrey, Mexico (2011) .His work is part of the Luciano Bennetton Collection.
